A Star Shall Come Out of Jacob

Who doesn't like talking animals? In the Bible, a story about a talking animal proves for us that God will fulfill the hopes of his people.

The story of Balaam and his talking donkey is as peculiar as anything you will find in the Bible. Balaam is a magician in the ancient nation of Moab. The people of Israel are passing through Moab on their way to the promised land. King Balak, king of Moab, fears them, and asks Balaam to place a curse on them. Balaam finds he cannot, because he cannot say anything God will not allow, and God will only allow him to bless Israel. In the process, an angel of the Lord appears in the road. Balaam cannot see it, but the donkey can. Balaam tries to move, the donkey refuses. Balaam hits the donkey, the donkey complains Talking animals.

The takeaway from it all is that God will not be dissuaded from blessing his people. Trusting God and following the way of Jesus may require some sacrifices in the short term, but in the long run God will reward those who trust in him. This Sunday in church we will be talking about hope fulfilled, and how God's will shall prevail, and God's people will be rewarded, and there is nothing the world can do to stop it.
