Give More, Get More
Give more, get more. It seems counter intuitive. It would seem that the more we give away, the less that would remain for ourselves. The Bible says differently. Proverbs 11:24 reads, "Some give freely, yet grow all the richer; others withhold what is due, and only suffer want." Give more, get more.
The Proverbs presupposes three truths about God and the world that he made. The first truth is that God created a world of abundance. There is plenty to go around. There is more than enough for everyone.
The second truth is that we are intended to participate in God's economy. No matter our occupation or source of income, we contribute to the world by taking part in the economy in a manner that aligns with the values of God.
The third truth is that we are meant to make a plan for giving away some of what we have. Without a plan, it never happens. As good stewards of the abundance with which God has blessed us, we want to have a comprehensive plan for handling all our finances, including a portion we determine beforehand to give away.
In our sermon this Sunday, we will conclude our series "A Life of Wisdom" with a reading of Proverbs 11:24-26 and a look at how we wind up with more when we give more.
